Bill for the Creation of Aba State Passes First Reading
The Bill on the creation of Aba State, sponsored by Hon. Ginger Onwusibe and three others, today passed the first reading on the floor of the House of Representatives.
This Bill, when passed into law, will increase the total number of states in the South East Region to 6, creating a balance with other Geopolitical zones in Nigeria who has more than 6 states.
According to the Bill sponsored by Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, Hon. Munachim Alozie, Hon. Chris Nkwonta, and Hon. Ifeanyi Ikwechegh, the proposed Aba State will comprise 9 Local Government Areas including, Aba North, Aba South, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, Obingwa, Osisioma Ngwa, Ugwunagbo, Ukwa East and Ukwa West LGAs.
Aba State when created will not only drive the greater development of South Eastern Nigeria, but will open up opportunities for building more mega cities, commerce and industries which will benefit the entire nation.
Recall, there have been calls for the creation of an additional state in the South East and bills for the creation of Orlu state, Etiti state etc have already passed first reading.
It is however unknown which of the bills will finally scale through.
