The people of Abiriba in Ohafia local Government Area, in the Abia North Senatorial District of Abia state have urged the National Assembly to consider the creation of Abiriba Local Government Area from the existing Ohafia L.G.A.

This was made known when the community led by the President General of the Abiriba Communal Improvement Union (ACIU), Hon. Yuccee Otah Uwa paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu at the National Assembly, Abuja, on Monday.

Though details of the proposed L.G.A are not known, the current local government comprises the 26 villages of Ohafia, Nkporo and Abirba.

It is however not known if the proposal accommodates Nkporo which could add up the numbers and help in fulfilling other requirements.

In his response, the deputy speaker assured that the proposal will be looked into if it was submitted before the assembly began the process of amending the 1999 constitution.

Kalu further stated that the proposal will not be attended to if it was sent in after the window had closed for the submission of proposals for new L.G.A creation.
