St Anthony’s College of Nursing Sciences Gets First SUG Executives, Ubaegbulem Emerges President

The Students of Saint Anthony’s College of Nursing Sciences Aba, on Wednesday July 17, elected the pioneer members of their Student union government (SUG).

In the keenly contested election held at the school premises, 62-80 Etche road, Aba, the commercial nerve center of Abia state, student Nurse Stanley Ubaegbulem emerged president after securing 125 votes to defeat Godwin Promise and Nurse Precious who polled 93 and 34 votes respectively.

Expressing his excitement after he was declared winner, Ubaegbulem said his leadership will focus on the unity of the students where there will be no hatred, prejudice and malice.

He stated that his government will carry everyone along to get to a greater height for the benefit of the students and the school at large.

Speaking, to our correspondent, the chairman, National Association of Nigerian Student Nurses and Midwives, Abia state Chapter, Ekekwe Nwachukwu Ejieke, said as the first election of the institution, certain lapses were noticed but were allowed for a smooth electoral process, adding the lessons learnt will help in the correction of the loopholes in their next election.

He however said he and other external observers from their association observed the entire process of the election, declaring it free, fair and credible.

Speaking earlier, the chairman, St Anthony’s College of Nursing Sciences Independent Students Electoral Commission (SACONS ISEC), Amaraihu Chidiebere Luke, said his committee promised a free, fair, credible election and delivered.

He thanked members of the committee for their dedication, hard work and commitment in fulfilling the onerous task without betraying the confidence reposed in them.

Announcing the results to the tensed crowd of students, Luke declared Student Nurse Stanley Ubaegbulem President-elect with 125 votes, leaving the students in a jubilating and frenzy mood while those supporting the students that lost in the election expressed their disappointments and said they will make better efforts to come out victorious in the next election when the tenure of the new SUG Executives expires in a year time.
