ABIA 2027: KALU KICKS AS PLOT TO IMPOSE APC GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE THICKENS, WARNS OF CONSEQUENCES
Tension is brewing in the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as governorship aspirant, Sir Mascot Uzor Kalu, at the weekend, rejected what he called a plot to impose a candidate on the party.
In a strongly worded statement on Sunday, April 12, 2026, Kalu alleged that APC State Executive members, LGA chairmen, and selected stakeholders were being mobilised for a meeting in Umuahia, disguised as a re-election campaign meeting for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, but with a hidden agenda to endorse a particular aspirant.
“Any consensus arrangement carried out without the involvement of all aspirants will be null, void and unacceptable,” Kalu declared.
He warned that the party must not be turned into “a tool for personal ambition,” stressing that party executives were elected to uphold fairness and internal democracy, not to impose candidates.
“The era of coercion and backdoor arrangements is over,” he said.
Kalu vowed to stay in the race despite pressure. “No amount of intimidation will make me step aside. Every Abian has the constitutional right to contest,” he insisted.
He also cautioned party officials against attending meetings convened by aspirants or interest groups, saying the integrity of the APC in Abia must be protected.
The development highlights emerging internal tensions within the APC in Abia State ahead of the 2027 governorship primaries.
