APC Primary: Orji Uzor Kalu Wins Abia North Senatorial Ticket by Wide Margin
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Abia North Senatorial District, defeating challenger Philip Nto across all five local government areas.
Official results from the election showed Kalu securing a commanding lead in Ohafia, Arochukwu, Bende, Isikwuato, and Umunneochi LGAs. He swept most wards in each council area.
In Ohafia LGA, Kalu recorded landslide victories in Etiti, Agbo, Ameke, Agboji, Ohafor, and Okamu wards. In several wards, Nto recorded no votes.

The trend continued in Arochukwu LGA, where Kalu won decisively in Ututu, Ikwun Ihechiowa, Ohafor Abam, Arochukwu Ward 1, and Arochukwu Ward 2. Similar results were returned in Bende, Isikwuato, and Umunneochi LGAs, cementing Kalu’s dominance across the district.

The exercise was monitored by party stakeholders across the district, who described the result as a boost for the APC ahead of the general election.

No Proof of Dues Payment Needed to Vote in Primary Elections, APC Clarifies
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified that registered party members are not required to show proof of membership dues payment to participate in the ongoing primary elections.
In a press statement issued on May 16, 2026, from its National Secretariat in Abuja and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON, the party said the clarification was necessary to prevent confusion and ensure smooth participation in the ongoing exercise.
According to the statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, CON, all duly registered members of the APC are entitled to vote in the primaries without presenting evidence of dues payment.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the requirement to show proof of payment of APC membership dues was applicable only to aspirants and their nominators during the submission of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms as well as during the screening exercise,” the party stated.
The APC urged members and stakeholders to disregard any contrary information and allow all eligible members to participate peacefully in the primaries without hindrance.
The clarification comes amid reports of confusion at some voting centers over membership dues requirements during the party’s internal elections.
